FAQs
Here are some common questions that you may like to have answered…
How Long Does A Session Last, And How Often Would I See You?
My sessions are fifty minutes long. It’s common for clients to see me weekly to begin with, but as things begin to resolve it’s common to drop this to every 2-3 weeks or so. However, I would usually discuss this with clients and we would decide on a frequency that suits you.
How Many Sessions Would I (We) Need?
This depends on many factors, including how complex and serious the issues are that you bring to me. Sometimes two to three sessions may be enough. Other times I may need to meet with you for a year or more. I can also offer ‘top up’ sessions two to three months after the end of therapy, to review how you’re doing.
How Do You Decide What Kind Of Therapy Is Best For Me (Us)?
During our first session together, I will be finding out lots about you, particularly what you’ve come to me for help with. We will begin to set some sensible goals for treatment, and – as we do this – I will already be starting to formulate my approach. I will then share my ideas with you. Typically, I use a combination of theoretical ideas and techniques from CBT, DBT, systemic and couples therapy.
Do You See Couples Or Family Members Separately?
Occasionally it can be a helpful part of couples work to see people individually for one or two sessions.
What Will You Do If You Think My Problems Are More Serious Than You, Alone, Can Handle?
Occasionally I will be working with people who are severely depressed, anxious or psychotic. Sometimes the level of their illness – and the risks that go with such illnesses – may require a more robust team approach. In these instances, I would recommend that you visit your doctor as a matter of urgency and request that you – or your child, partner, or other family member – be referred to a specialist mental health team. I might also recommend you speak to your doctor about a trial of medication. Medication is often a valuable addition to talking therapy.
Are The Sessions Confidential?
I respect confidentiality at all times. However, there may be times I will share information with other professionals or family members, either with your permission, or if I have concerns about safety. Within couples work, if we agree that one of you will come and see me individually, we will discuss and agree what needs to be shared with your partner in subsequent couples sessions.
Where Will The Sessions Take Place?
I offer in-person sessions at my therapy room (9170 E Bahia Dr., Suite 102, Scottsdale, AZ 85260) or telehealth sessions via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video link.
How Much Do Therapy Sessions Cost?
I charge $225 for couples and individual sessions (50 minutes).
Do You Accept Health Insurance?
I am unable to accept any health insurance; all sessions will be charged directly to you, the client. I will provide you with a “Superbill”, a document for insurance companies detailing the services I have provided. It will contain vital information, like diagnosis and procedure codes, needed for insurance payers to reimburse you for the services you paid for. You can then submit the superbill (file an out-of-network claim) with your insurer who will review the claim and may reimburse all, some, or none of the services depending on their assessment.
What Happens If I Want To Cancel?
If you cancel within 24 hours of our session I will charge 40% of the full fee ($90). For all cancellations received via text, phone or email over 24 hours in advance of the scheduled time, there is no charge.
