About

Choosing a therapist is an important decision.

You want someone who not only understands what you’re going through, but who can help you make meaningful changes.

Ben Thornley, Scottsdale Therapist

About Me

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Scottsdale, working with both individuals and couples.

My work focuses on helping people understand and change the patterns that keep them feeling stuck—whether those patterns show up internally (such as anxiety, anger, or low mood) or in relationships (such as repeated conflict or disconnection).

My Approach

I draw on work influenced by John Gottman to help couples identify and change the interaction patterns that lead to conflict, distance, or breakdown in communication. My approach is practical, structured, and grounded in evidence-based methods.

I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help individuals:

  • Regulate intense emotions
  • Reduce reactivity
  • Improve communication and boundaries
  • Respond more effectively in difficult situations

This combination allows us to work on both:

  • What happens within you
  • What happens between you and others

How I Work

In sessions, I aim to be:

  • Clear and practical
  • Engaged and responsive
  • A fantastic listener
  • Empathic and compassionate, but challenging when needed
  • Focused on helping you move forward

Therapy is not just about talking—it’s about understanding patterns and learning how to change them.

Who I Work Best With

I work particularly well with:

  • Couples experiencing repeated conflict or disconnection
  • Individuals struggling with anxiety, emotional reactivity, low mood, relationship difficulties, any significant life challenges
  • People who want a structured, practical approach—not just open-ended discussion
